The Role:


As Lead Software Engineer, Alternative Assets Technology, you will provide technical leadership in designing, developing, and evolving technology platforms that support CPP Investments' Private Equity investment teams across the investment lifecycle. Reporting to the Director, you will partner with investment professionals, product managers, and engineers to deliver scalable, resilient software solutions that enable investment execution, portfolio management, and data-driven decision-making. You will champion engineering excellence, mentor engineers, and influence architecture and technology strategy across Alternative Assets Technology and the broader Technology & Data organization.

The Team:


Technology & Operations enables CPP Investments to deliver on its global investment mandate through secure, resilient, and innovative technology capabilities. The department partners with investment and corporate teams to develop modern technology platforms that accelerate innovation, support investment decision-making, and deliver operational excellence.

The Alternative Assets Technology team partners closely with Private Equity investment professionals to build technology platforms that support investment execution, portfolio management, and data-driven insights. The team develops scalable software products while advancing engineering practices, modern architecture, and technology capabilities across the organization.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design, development, testing, deployment, and support of scalable software solutions that enable Private Equity investment capabilities.

  • Partner with investment professionals, product managers, and technology teams to deliver innovative solutions that address complex business needs in an Agile environment.

  • Drive engineering excellence by establishing best practices, mentoring engineers, and promoting continuous improvement across the team.

  • Apply deep technical expertise to influence solution architecture, guide technical decisions, and support the evolution of enterprise technology platforms.

  • Foster innovation through experimentation, iterative delivery, and responsive solution design that adapts to evolving business priorities.

  • Lead complex technical problem-solving and cross-functional root cause analysis to improve application reliability, performance, and operational resilience.

  • Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, technology partners, and vendors while contributing to a collaborative, inclusive engineering culture.

What You Bring

  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive software engineering experience delivering enterprise technology solutions.

  • Strong proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python, Java, and C++, with experience designing and developing scalable software applications.

  • Experience with modern software engineering practices, including Agile delivery, version control, automated testing, continuous integration, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code while applying sound engineering principles and coding standards.

  • Proven technical leadership experience, including mentoring engineers, influencing technical direction, and collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a passion for continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence.
